Dave Matthews Band - LiveTrax Vol.8 Apline Valley (USA, 2004)

Dave Matthews Band - LiveTrax Vol.8 Apline Valley (USA, 2004)

Live Trax Vol. 8 is the eighth album in the Live Trax live album series by the Dave Matthews Band. The album was recorded on August 7, 2004 at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The show features the band's first, and to date, only performance of "Super Freak," played as a tribute to the late Rick James who had died the day before. The song replaced the performance of "Anyone Seen the Bridge?," which is typically played as a segue between "So Much to Say" and "Too Much." The album contains a vast array of Dave Matthews Band live-only songs, including "Granny," "Help Myself," "Sugar Will," and the first official release of "Crazy-Easy." The latter two of these songs were new for the 2004 summer tour and had not been released on an album at the time of the show. Of the two other new songs played at this show, "Hello Again" was released on the band's next studio album, Stand Up, and "Joyride" was released as a B-side on the Stand Up bonus disc.

Beatiful Nubia And His Roots Renaissance Band - Irinajo (Nigeria, 2010)

Beatiful Nubia And His Roots Renaissance Band - Irinajo (Nigeria, 2010)

Beautiful Nubia is the performance name of Nigerian-born poet, songwriter, folklorist and bandleader, Segun Akinlolu.

Beautiful Nubia’s songs of cultural celebration, social upliftment and public enlightenment have inspired millions of people in his country of birth. As independent as any artist can ever be, BN writes, arranges, produces and markets his own music. His original songs, rich in folkloric traditions and ancient wisdom, have impressed many, including elders, and his ability to re-invent old folk rhythms and songs has led to a description as “one of those who have come to redeem the image of traditional African music” (The Vanguard, 2001). He has evolved a form of music which appeals to a continuously growing market comprising all sections of the populace: the poor and the rich, unlettered market-women and university professors, urban youth and rural folk, male and female, young and old.

Eric Wainaina - Twende Twende (Kenya, 2006)

Eric Wainaina - Twende Twende (Kenya, 2006)

Eric Wainaina (born 28 August 1973) is a Kenyan singer-songwriter. His career was launched with his debut album, Sawa Sawa, in 2001. Wainaina's music is a blend of KenyanBenga rhythm and East African guitars, with some modern harmony. Wainaina was born in Nairobi, Kenya, to George Gitau Wainaina and Margaret Wangari Wainaina. He has one brother, Simon Wainaina. His love for music started at a young age. He got a piano at age 4, originally intended for his brother Simon who instead took keen interest in football. Wainaina thus grudgingly took piano lessons. He actively participated in the choir throughout elementary and high school at St. Mary's School, Nairobi, save for a short stint in basketball. Whilst growing up, Wainaina was influenced musically by international artists such as Papa Wemba, Youssou N'Dour, Lokua Kanza and Paul Simon. (Wikipedia)

Étienne MBappé - Misiya (Camerún, 2004)

Étienne MBappé - Misiya (Camerún, 2004)

The key to Etienne Mbappé’s music is the story of the dispersal of the black peoples of Africa, a story that in his hands becomes a celebration. Through his music, Mbappé has introduced a new element into contemporary African music. He is conscious of Africa’s traumas, doubts and questionings, but he also openly embraces the modernity of a continent that has given so much to the world while receiving so much pain in return.

The Gangbé Brass Band is a 10-member Beninese musical ensemble founded in 1994. The word "gangbe" means "sound of metal" in the Fon language. They blend West African jùjú and traditional Vodou music with Western jazz and big-band sounds. Their unusual instrumentation---trumpet, trombone, and tuba, along with West African percussion and vocals---is, to some extent, part of West Africa's colonial legacy; French colonial officers imported brass instruments and trained local musicians to play European-style military and dance hall music. Gangbe has released four albums: Gangbe (1998), Togbe (2001), Whendo (2004) and Assiko (2008), and tours extensively in Europe and North America. (Wikipedia)

Incognito - Jazz Funk (UK, 1981)

Incognito - Jazz Funk (UK, 1981)
